Stamford Housing for Young People Trust (SHYP TRUST)
SHYP Trust seeks to alleviate homelessness and its associated problems in Stamford and the immediate locality.
Stamford Housing for Young People was formed in 1991 to address the needs of young people who were homeless, leaving care, or had other accommodation problems.
SHYP House opened in 1996 and a further house, Bridge House, opened in 2002.
SHYP House offers supported accommodation for 8 young people, and Bridge House provides move-on accommodation for 3 young people.
SHYP TRUST was formed in 1998 and is entirely independent of SHYP House. The trust does not have staff or premises and all the work is unpaid. This ensures that every pound that is donated is used for the work of the trust.
Over the past 9 years the work of SHYP TRUST had expanded so that at the present time the trust:
- Runs a rent guarantee scheme. This enables access to private accommodation, by lending the prospective tenant the rent in advance, deposit and agents fee, and then recovering this outlay from the tenant in instalments.
- Offers support to those housed under the Rent Guarantee scheme.
- Offers small grants to help with basic housing, educational or training needs.
- Works with SHYP House to support residents wherever possible.
- Works with Start-A-Fresh
- Provides grants to those affected by domestic violence.
- Attends multi disciplinary meeting locally.
- Holds fundraising events for the work of the trust.

SHYP TRUST Is mainly funded by voluntary donations. SKDC have assisted with some funding in the past.
